Not only is Keighley’s games celebration a huge platform with a lot of viewers-especially due to the cancellation of E3 in 2023-but the last time Alan Wake 2 appeared was in its reveal at The Game Awards, which was also hosted by Keighley. There is not much time left in 2023 before Alan Wake 2 is going to have to launch, and there is a perfect opportunity to announce when that will be during Summer Game Fest in June. However, Remedy has reportedly stated that Alan Wake 2 is playable from start to finish, which would suggest that the lack of any news or details has been purposeful. Remedy is in the middle of juggling a ton of games right now, and it would not be surprising if its plate is overloaded and more time needs to be afforded to make it truly special. Either way, it needs a release date to confirm that it will in fact launch this year, and the absence of any substantial news or details lately is always concerning to fans in the meantime. Shadow-dropping Alan Wake 2 would be an absolutely absurd approach, but the sequel could probably get by without many trailers before it finally launches.
The only morsel that fans truly need at this point is to hear a concrete confirmation of its purported release this year. Rather, Alan Wake 2 could likely get away with not revealing too much about its gameplay as a sign of posturing from Remedy, where its survival-horror genre and franchise anticipation perhaps being enough to excite fans regardless. It would be incredible to see what Alan Wake’s light mechanics will look like in survival horror, considering how palpable its dread and nyctophobia-inducing sequences were.
